Minneapolis Star Tribune a few weeks ago:
Random mix
When Askeleton releases its next record, "The Personalization," on Brooklyn's Goodnight Records, you'll have a hard time finding it on CD. That's because ringleader Knol Tate has decided CDs "are a dead medium." The plan is to release the album on vinyl and include a code that will allow listeners to download the record in MP3 format along with at least six bonus tracks. He's working out details with his label and talking to distributors about the viability of such a strategy. "It might be career suicide," he says, "but I'm down with career suicide." 12:36 PM

Hey people, Sorry for no new news and a big ole lack of updates but news is coming my friends. There will be some new members and new music of course. I have randomly put up some songs from the new record up on our myspace page. Streaming of course. We are working out kinks and plans for the new record and hope to have it out by this fall sometimes. Hope to also have another new record follow up that one very soon after.
Look for shows this fall and maybe a solo and or duo show very soon.
Also Bill and my other band call Ela will be hitting the road with our good friends Minus The Bear this fall. Check out their sites for details.
Until next time, Knol. 1:04 AM

MAKING A RECORD:
2/2/07 day one: we are going into the studio today to start recording the new record. This is day one and Rob is sick with the flu and he has the gear we rented. We got some nice gear. Overheads will sound nice if you care or notice that kinda thing. Hope he feels good enough to come in tomorrow. Today we were just getting sounds, mainly. Though I would love to start some tracking today. With Rob sick not sure how many things will change when we DOES come in. Everything will get more low end, I bet.
Today Billy and I just set up mics and pre amps, move and tune drums ALOT!! Maybe put some shirts or tape on the toms for the dead sounds we are going for for some of the songs.
Been listening to a great comp to get in the mood: 1234- Punk and New Wave 76'-79'. Some great shit we have all heard before and some songs and bands I've never heard of. Wireless Eric?
Getting bass tones will be fun as well. Noah will be going direct as well as a choice of a couple amps. His own, Rob's Eden and the Orange 120 (That thing will growl), among some others.
I'm borrowing a amp from our good pal Steve McPherson for the basic tracking. Some crazy custom class A thing. Going to double most my parts with my ampeg. I'm guess Billy will just use his amazing little amp.
I will write more as the days go one, if you care to read.
We will be tracking a few songs on the cassette 4 track in the basement this next week as well. No GBV but I can get some cool sounds that way. 3 piece basic Askeleton tracking. Billy on drums, Noah P on the bass and your truely on the guitar. Going to dump the tracks in the Pro Tools and over dub more from there. FUN FUN FUN!!!
2/4/07 Day 2 and 3: It's now 9:30 am Sunday Feb 4th. Rent is due tomorrow.
Day one at the studio went faster than I thought. We tracked the drums and bass for 3 songs!!!! I think it was (these are working titles kids) Swearing, Intertwined and The Politics Of This Party. Steve, Noah and I tracked the basics will Bill did a funny British accent and told us to play better. We thought we would only have sounds by the end of the day so tracking 3 was great. First set up was the "dead" drums sound. Muted the drums some and made some forts for the drums and bass amp. Lot's of ribbon mics around the kit and in the room. I'll try and post some photos of the drums set up if anyone took any.
Per everyone's advice I sat out on some of the tracking so my awful palm muting wouldn't distract Noah and Steve. Bill and his beautiful wife Abby left around 10 to go see Mouth Full Bees. Steve McPherson sowed up about 11 to borrow us an amazing little guitar amp and chatted about music with us since he gets paid to critique it. NP and YAasgar fell asleep on the couch around 1am while I fixed some basic guitars.
Day two at Ice Fac: After planning on meeting at noon I showed up around 12:30 and the newly chipper and bright eyed (after being sick) Rob Skoro showed up around 11 with fun toys in tow. A few bass guitars for Noah to try. A few acoustic guitars for me to try and some midi toys for Rob to try. The drum and bass guys got there around 2 and we started tracking more dead drums sounds while waiting for Billy to get finished playing Sean "Twinkie Jiggles" McPherson to get done playing racket ball. We tracked basics for Skunk Medicine, Basement and maybe another before Bill got there to track the "live" or "open" drum sound tracks. All 5 of us playing but most likely only keeping Noah and Steve's tracks. We tracked Death To St. Paul, Switzerland, which we all new the songs pretty well. Minor Celebrity and Kill we took time going over parts and thinking about the of the songs. Both turned out well. Kill sounds pretty cool.
Joining us at the Askeleton party on day two were as follows: Sean McPherson, Ellen Darth Fitzgerald, Chris (Steve's pal whose last name I never remember), Scotty "Blow Job" Johnson, Emmy Hanson and Eric Fox. We drank 16 beers and started up a fight. Well not really but there were 3 cases of beer in that studio.
Noah, Steve and Sean stayed very late and I went home around 4.
Very tired but feel asleep feeling pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
2/7/07 day 4, 5 and 6: Sunday went pretty well. Bill, Rob and I made it to the studio about 1pm after a great breakfast. Noah and Sean's cars didn't start after staying the night at the studio. Bill went and jumped Noah's at around 8 am. Anyway, got all of Bill's guitars done and some of mine. All of Bill's guitar parts were recorded in stereo with 2 amps in different rooms with different tones. Most the songs have one amp really effected and one cleaner. Sounds a pretty cool. Rob did some killer keyboard lines and textures but left early to go to work. After Bill went to a super bowl thing his parents s were having I messed around with tones and recorded some of my guitar parts. Bill and I had to DJ that night at the 331 so I left the studio in disarray and we DJ'd our asses off.
Monday we went back to the studio to clean up. That was not fun. Spent Monday eve back at the punk house getting sounds on the four track in the basement using the gear we rented. Billy on drums to stereo 2 tracks. Bass DI and my guitar in the scary "office"
Tuesday we slept and then got up and tracked "Girls Night' on the four track. did many many many takes to warm Bill up on the drums but once we did it sounded pretty good. I love the idea of having songs on the record with the basics being recorded on four track. I had instant flashbacks to recording my brother and my stuff when we were young and recording stuff for my favorite band when I was young: Amies. Same feel but sounds pretty good. Mixing very expensive gear with that same circa 1988 sound of the four track really makes me feel warm inside.
More later.
2/14/07 Spent the rest of last week doing drums and bass on the 4 track in the basement. Finished "Girls Night", "I Wanna Marry All The Women" and Noah's first (yet to be titled). We also worked out another one that we are going to track drums and keys for at the studio this weekend.
Took this week off from recording. Needed to catch up on some sleep and deal with some personal things. Going back to the studio on Saturday to dump four tracks things into Pro Tools and do some guitar things there. Some drum and bass shit too. Starting work on all the rest overdubs (including my vocals. Yikes) starting Sunday. I do think everything will be tracked by the end of Feb and ready to mix that first week of March and mastered right after for a quick spring release. Oh my.
More later. I'm going to watch Lost. 11:50 AM

We are going into our little Ice Factory studio on Feb 2nd record the 4th Askeleton record. We have about 9 songs worked out and about 4 more that I have demoed by myself. This will be the last recording we do with our good friend and comrade Steve Yasgar. We decided to go ahead and record the songs we have written with Steve to document this first real kinda band Askeleton thing. Steve is a busy busy man and is going on to some bad ass things. Check out one of those things called Be Lonna. Steve of course stays a great friend and we love him. Joining us in the studio will be Rob Skoro of Robert Skoro fame to help produce and play on the recording. We sure love him and are happy as flies on shit to have him with us.
The songs we are planning on recording are as follows (working titles): Basement Swearing The Politics Of This Party Death To St. Paul Intertwined Switzerland Minor Celebrity Skunk Medicine Kill Girls Night I Want To Marry All The Women
Maybe a few more.
Most of the songs are worked out as a full band with some still just demos that the 4 of us will record at homes and places not meant for recording. Fun huh? Billy on drums? That is fun.
So to sum up: Recording soon. New songs. Steve going bye bye Need new drummer! Love everyone always.

Writing Writing. It's what we do.
We are all ok here. We can play together. Can you feel the cold air on your neck? We spotted on the air on your neck. Oh, what the heck, we left you out. You were right, we are stuck up and were brought up to be that way. We feel sorry for you.
Poor you. Poor, poor you.
We are sick of fake string sounds. Where did you get the time? Did you steal some gear from the van? Is that were you got the fake string sounds? Oh what the hell, you can have them. You can keep all the things we gave you. You can keep our souls, too, and make music new.
Make music new. 10:38 AM
